Ilocos Sur is a lovely province in the northern part of the island of Luzon. It is a culturally rich province that represents ancient Spanish and Filipino ancestors. To show and share their treasures with the rest of the world, the locals created the "Kannadiwan Festival," which highlights these cultural traditions.
It is a festival that takes place from the last week of January to the first week of February. The commemoration of the province's founding day is included in the schedule of events.
One of the festival's goals is to pay more attention to children. It is due to the observation that many traditions, songs, dances, and other aspects of Ilocano culture are not recognized by the province's younger generations. Instead of traditional dances, children are more interested in modern and novelty dances they see on television. It is one of the reasons for the Kannadiwan Festival.
This is significant because children can learn about their rich culture and traditions here. Traditional tribal rituals, choir and glee club competitions, marching band competitions, traditional music ensembles, dance drama, traditional and folk dances, contemporary dance competitions, and street dancing showdowns are among them.
The local government of Ilocos Sur created this festival to encourage younger generations to learn the province's indigenous songs and dances. And we're thankful for all the people that cooperated in making all the people happy in Vigan.
